REVIEW OF PAST SEASON. The Levin branch of the W.E.A. has now concluded its discussion course on New Zealand problems. Twelve . tures were read, on 21 evenings,' and the sulbjects were then thrown open for discussion. Questions were set relating to each subject, which opened up free, varied and interesting discussions on the problems of our country and our relations with the world situation. The W.E.A. feels that it is fulfilling its function of adult education by providing the means whereby such discussions can be intelligent, and. informed. Free exchange of thought in the manner described can be of the highest value, not only to those concerned, but to the whole community. The classes were held in an ante-room of the Regent Theatre, which was comfortable and convenient^ The following was the syllabus: — ‘‘lntroduction to the study of Social Problems” (in two lectures) by Profes,sor T. A. Hunter,- “The Economic Development of New Zealand,” by Mr A. D". Mclntosh, M.A., comprising two lectures —“Growth of the Primary Industries” and “ The Activities of the State in New Zealand”; “Money and the Economic Crisis,” by Mr D. O, Williams, M.A., comprising “Some General Concepts,’’ “Economic and Social Effects of Changes in the Value of Money,” “Prospects of the Present Trend and Cycle,” and “Possibilities of Money Control ’‘‘‘Problems of Rural Life, ’ ’ by .J. A. Frailsford, B. and, by the same tutor, “iState Education in New Zealand,” and “New Zealand and the Pacific, ’ ’ the latter comprising “Perils and Opportunities” and “New Zealand and Samoa.” A lecture will be delivered at a date to be advertised, which will conclude the' year’s work.
