MEETING OF P.N. BOARD. A meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board was held in Palmerston North on Monday, when there were present: Messrs, J. I£. Hornblow, (chairman), J. A. Nash, M.l*., L. T. McLean, M. A. Moody, J. Boyce, W. Howell, A. E. Mansford, R. L. C. Aitchison, F. J. Ryder, W. Greehhow, G. P. Catley, V. E. Smith, G. A. Monk and Mrs. Abraham. The Minister of Health (Hon. A. J. Stallworthy) acknowledged the Board's protest against probationer nurses having to pay the emergency unemployment levy. He had drawn the Prime Minister's notice to the matter. The chairman of the Unemployment Committee, Avriting on the same matter, pointed out that the Board had no power to grant an exemption for probationers or nurses in training. The Foxton United Sports Association wrote asking for an ambulance in connection with their motor-cycle race meeting on Labour Day. —Granted under usual conditions.

In connection with the charge imposed by the Health Department for interest on advance of subsidy, amounting to £4l, it was decided to protest to the Government against this imposition, and to bring the matter under the notice of the Hospital Boards' Association, This action simply meant a deduction by the Government from the ■amount of subsidy actually due. In connection with the work of the Palmerston North central relief committee, it was decided that to assist the committee the managing secretary should be authorised to employ an investigating officer at a weekly ‘cost not exceeding £3 to investigate cases receiving assistance from the Palmerston North depot. In connection with the hospital treatment of staff, it was resolved that for future cases the by-laws should -be strictly adhered to, and that all cases where free treatment is recommended should be considered on their merits. It was agreed to endorse the agreement made by the managing secretary for a complete overhaul and repairs to the main cooking plant in the kitchen, at an estimated cost of £6O. .
