Wizard Smith’s Speed Attempt Will be Postponed
MAY UNSUITABLE MONTH AUCKLAND, Last Night. It is not likely that Mr. Norman (“Wizard”) Smith will make his attempt on the land speed record of 245 miles an hour at the Ninety-mile beach until next summer. There was a suggestion that he would bring his car across from Sydney as soon as it was finished, some time next month, but the Auckland Automobile Racing Club, which has been authorised to handle the attempt on the world’s record, now proposes to write to Mr. Smith and ad vise him not to come to New Zealand until next summer, preferably in January. The attempt, it is maintained, would be impossible in May.
