A well-known Pirongia farmer, Thomas Steel, when driving a young Jersey bull to a paddock yesterday, .was savagely attacked by the animal and knocked off his horse. The latter was severely gored, while Steel scrambled under a hedge. A lorry driver named Mounscy heard Steel’s cries and drove the lorry at the bull, diverting its attention while Steel crawled through the hedge. The horse was badly gored necessitating stitches. The rider escaped with bruises.
