HIGH WIND AND SHORTAGE OF WATER,

Two large wooden houses and contents in Victoria Street, Petone, were totally destroyed by fire at 11.30 p.m. last night. A 'blustering wind . was blowing and to this being added a shockingly poof water pressure, the brigade had an exceedingly difficult task to stop the further spread of the flames, the fight continuing for three hours. The house of origin was occupied by Mrs Patrick Quinn and family and is insured for £l5O in the Royal Exchange and £BSO in the State. The other is owned by Mrs King and occupied by her and Mrs and Mr Archer and family. It is insured for £SOO in the State. Quinn’s furniture is insured for £490 in the London and Lancashire.
