Mr L. A. Spieer, of Ihakara, who recently underwent an X-ray examination in the Palmerston North Hospital, owing to an internal trouble, was operated on at the Levin Private Hospital this morning. His friends will be pleased to know that he is doing as well as can be expected.

The condition of Bishop Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who has been ill for sonic weeks, is now giving cause for anxiety. The last Sacraments of the Church were administered yesterday afternoon by Bishop Liston, assisted by .Monsignor Cahill. A late message states that Dr. Cleary > lapsed into unconsciousness at 5 o'clock this morning. His condition this afternoon showed no improvement, and prayers for the dying are being said in all Roman Catholic churches throughout the diocese.
