RECENT APPEALS.

THANKS TO CONTRIBUTORS

Tlie appeal made through the Chronicle on behalf of a local family in need of assistance, having realised sufficient to give the relief desired, has now been closed. Two amounts were received yesterday~£l each from the r Methodist Sunday School and the .Levin Branch of the Women’s Institute —bringing the total to £3B 4s. In addition there have been many direct contributions to the family made by those acquainted personally with the circumstances, and in this connection we are asked to acknowledge £4 from “Two Friends,” and £1 from another “Friend.” These, and other similarly given amounts have been sufficient for immediate needs and the Chronicle fund has been deposited in the Post. Office Savings Bank to be drawn upon as required. The beneficiaries wish to thank all who have so generouslyassisted them. The removal of anxiety has meant a very great deal and has brought new hope for which they are very grateful and appreciative. The appeal on behalf of the Christmas Fund for the Porirua Mental Hospital realised £8 19s, which was forwarded by Mrs Hobson to the Welfare Branch of the Women’s National Reserve. Letters from the secretary, Miss Helen Wiltshire, of Wellington, to Mrs Hobson and the Chronicle convey the thanks of 'the Reserve to all contributors. SHe writes: “We are more than pleased with the result. It is the largest donation we have received this year. We know all towns, small and large, get a number of calls for help in various ways, but I think all will agree that this is a very worthy object. We' still have one or two donations to come in when we will have over £3O to hand to the Medical Superintendent for gifts.”
