Tiio New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association recently approached the Government requesting a grant of £75(? to be added to £.IOOO already raised by the association for the purpose of sending a team to compete in the Empire Ladies' Hockey tournament in South Africa in July, August and September, 1930. The Government's reply, which has ,< now been received, is to the effect that owing to additional burdens on the Consolidated Fund, it is unable te give the grant of the aaiouut asked for. Unless tho additional money required is raised by January 31, when entries for ■the tournament close, the tour will have to be abandoned. If the team is sent to South Africa, it will be selected from the following, who have been nominated by the selectors:— > Goalkeeper: N. Hoggins (Wellington); full backs: K. Burt (Southland), K.
