/(By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day. Hopes of a settlement of the coal iniiies trouble were shattered when the Council of the Miners’ Federation dc<>klod that it would not agree to any reduction in wages. This decision, if •adhered to, means the collapse of the negotiations with the colliery proprietors, who insist upon a wage reduction as the only i basis of agreement. Officials of the Miners’ Federation and the -.northern, leaders favoured a compromise, but they were outvoted by the western and southern delegates. The action of the Miners’ Council has the effect of throwing the dispute hack upon the hands of the Federal Government.
