PADDY'S MARKET AT CONVENT SCHOOL.

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION DESPITE WET WEATHER. The rain-which came yesterday after a fortnight’s drought, and brought joy to the hearts of the farmers, just happened to coincide with the Paddy’s 'Market hold on the Convent School grounds. Apparently it did not dampen the enthusiasm of either the promoters or the patrons, and, considering the weather conditions, the affair was quite a success. Plenty of shelter was available in the sheds and under the veranda of the school, so that it was possible to have all the stalls dryly housed. There were breaks in the weather, enabling the crowd to move about at intervals, .between the buildings, and from time to time the merry shouts of youngsters made it evident that the games incidental to the fair were much to their liking. All the arrangements for .an attractive display had been systematically made. There were stalls for the sale of fancy goods, cakes and sweets, and produce, also a Christmas tree handsomely bedecked, and tea-rooms where excellent refreshments wore served. Brisk business was done in all departments, and competitions added variety to the proceedings. Good value was offered to customers, and stocks wore readily disposed of. A fine feature of the market was the fancy stall, liberally supplied with goods, both pretty and.useful, made by the Sisters, pupils and friends. Cakes and confectionery, of admirable quality, were in abundant; supply, and the produce made a noble show. The whole organisation was in the capable hands of the Sisters, who were aided by the willing services of a band of girls ami boys, and by gifts for the stalls from parishioners and friends.

The stall-holders and other principal helpers were as under:— Haney Goods Stall. —Mary Smith, Eileen Bradley, Nora o’.Donnell, an 4 ers.

Cake and Sweets Stall. —Norcen Hosp, Molly Milroy, Aroha Ilesp, and helpers.

Produce Stall, Christinas Tree, and Games. —Boys of the School.

Tea Booms. —Betty Milroy, Joan Sklenars, Nora Hogan and Dorothy Jarvis.
