SPIRIT VOICE OF ABRAHAM PROTESTS.
ARABS' IN STATE OF ABJECT TERROR SONS OF ISHMAEL REBUKED. Received Monday, 7 p.m. JERUSALEM, Sept. 23. Arabs residing in the Hebron neighbourhood are abjectly terrified as the result of ghostly voices coming from the Cave of Machpelch, where tradition says Abraham, Isaac and Jacob lie buried. Before sunset, it is declared, there is low moaning and wailing till darkness, then came cries of “Why are my children slaughtered, 0 sons of Ishmael, why have ye dishonoured thy father’s name?” and also subterranean womens voices; 1 Why do ye shed the innocent blood? Why have ye no pity?” The Arabs are trying to discover means of calming the patriarchs’ troubled spirits. Abraham is regarded as the ancestor not merely of the Israelites and the Tshniiaelitc Arabs but of the oilier races in Northern Arabia, of Edomites (through Esau) ami the A nlianites. “Ibrahim,” is, for all good .Moslems, the “father of the faithful.’
