RESIGNATION OF MR A. R. CALLANDER.
TRIBUTE TO WORK AS COUNTY ASSISTANT ENGINEER,
The written resignation was received by the Ilorowhenua Coitnty Council on Saturday, of Mr A. R. Callander, assistant engineer, who has been appointed clerk and engineer to the Cheviot County Council, He asked to be relieved from his present position at the end of this month. «
The Chairman (Mr G. A. Monk) moved that Mr Callander’s resignation bo accepted with regret, and that it be dated October 14th, as a fortnight’s leave was due to him, and he would be released from dutv on September 30th.
Or. Catlcy seconded the motion, and remarked that the assistant engineer had served the Council very well.
The Chairman said he regretted exceedingly that they were about to lose Mr Callander's services. At the same time he must congratulate him on having been appointed to a position that was more than equal to that of a eounly engineer. Their associations' with him had shown that they had done wisely in engaging him to serve this County, which he had done exceedingly well. The Chairman thought that the Council had been very happy to have Mr Callander in their employ and that that officer had also been very happy in the position; he had left his mark on the highways, having surveyed close on fifty miles of road and fixed the road lines; he had obtained practically all the data for the preparation of the plans, and altogether had done very excellent work. The Chairman expressed the hope that the position which Mr Callander was taking un would lead to big things, and was satisfied that he had the ability. He wished him every success in the future. Cr. Ryder seconded the motion and endorsed the Chairman’s sentiments. "All the time that Mr Callander has been with us,” he said, "we have never had the slightest, trouble with any of his work.” I he motion was then carried.
