FIRES OUTSIDE THE BOROUGH.
COUNTY COUNCIL MAKES GRANT TO BOARD. SUM OF £5, SUBJECT TO ANNUAL REVIEW. As a result of the recent application by the Levin Fire Board to the Horo whenua County Council for assistance towards the cost of fighting fires which occur just outside the Borough boundaix the Works Committee made the following recommendation to the Council j)n Saturday:—“That the sum of £5 5s per annum be granted to the Levin Fire Board for the supply of the necessary appliances and labour for the purpose of extinguishing fires adjacent to the Levin Fire Board district. That this grant be subject to annual review by the Council.’ ’ Cr. Bryant asked if this was a riding matter, and the Chairman (Mr G. A. Monk) replied in the affirmative. The recommendation was adopted without discussion, but Cr. Cat-ley voted against it.
