Mr P. Crtuck, who lias been a resident of this district for the past nine years, left Levin to-day for North Auckland, where fie has taken over a farm at Dairy Flat.
A Tauranga. message reports the death of Mr James Henry Clayton, at the age of 78. He was well known in the journalistic world, and at the time of his death was one of the oldest members of the profession in Hew Zealand.
Mr U. H. Townsend, who has been appointed by the Agricultural Department inspector and manager of the Levin Municipal Abattoirs, was a visitor to Levin to-day, ami will shortly remove, with his family, from Gisborne, where he has been stationed. Mr Townsend will take up his duties oa September 21st. He will also act as stock inspector for the district with, headquarters at Levin.
The death is announced in a Press telegram from Pahiatua of Mr Gerald Champion Miller, who was for many years Town Clerk, and was also seere"tavy of the Fire Board and agent’for the Public Trust. He had been confined to his bed for several weeks and liis wife has been an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital for several mouths past. The late Mr Miller leaves a daughter and a son.
The Levin District High School Committee has been advised of the appointment of Mr W. Thomas, of Taumarunui, to the vacancy on the Secondary department staff caused by the removal of Mr J. Marsh to Pahiatua. Mr Thomas has had nearly fourteen years * experience as a teacher and has been, 5A years at Taumarunui. Helms an A certificate and is highly spoken of as a teacher. Another appointment tr the staff is that of Mr T. Chipper, of the Foxton District High School. Mr Chipper will fill the vacancy caused by the promotion of Mr H. J. Jones t 0 the first assistantship. He has been teaching for eight years, for the last fifteen months at Foxton, and has a B certificate. Both these teachers will take up duty on October Ist. The Committee endeavoured to ensure their work commencing in Levin on the resumption of the school this week, but this was impossible as they were both under different Boards. Mrs M. _I. Bowes, 8.A., is in the meantime acting as relieving teacher in the secondary department.
