News of the "murder in the New Hebrides of a French planter named Chevalier,' reached Sydney by the steamer Mnkambo. Chevalier was reproving two Tonkingeso labourers whom lie suspected of theft, when they attacked Slim and literally hacked him to pieces. The murderers fled into the bush and all efforts to recapture them have proved unavailing.
