AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE.
WHANG-ANUI RIVER BREAKS ITS DAM. SEVERAL HOUSES SHIFTED. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Acting-Secretary of the General Post Office has received the following /advice from the Chief Postmaster at Westport: — “The Postmaster at Karamea reports that the dam in the gorge of the Whanganui River broke away last night. There was no loss of life, but considerable damage was done in the Wangapeka Valley, where two or three houses were shifted some chains.
‘‘Scobie’s bridge has gone, and there are heavy losses of stock."
