NEW ZEALANDER FLIES OVER UNITED STATES

( 4000 MILES IN 48 HOURS. BLENHEIM, Last Night. .As an example of what travel by air means in the vast spaces of the United States from the point of view of saving time, the experiences of Mr. H. R. Dix, of Blenheim, are worth quoting. Mr. Dix, who is president of the Marlborough Aero Club, representing that body and also Auckland, Wellington, Hawke's Bay and mid-Canterbury Aero Clubs at the International civil aviation aeronautical conference to open at Washington to-morrow, arrived in San Francisco on Thursday morning and as the guest of the United States, left by aeroplane the same day for Chicago. A brief cablegram received in Blenheim on Saturday morning from San Fjranciseo, stated: '" 'Plane just leaving." It had hardly been read when , a second one arrived announcing the traveller's arrival at Salt Lake City, which is some 1200 miles by air from 'Frisco. Next came messages from Cheyenne, another 1000 miles along the route, from Omaha, still another 1000 miles and this morning, one arrived from Chicago, which was reached on Saturday night. Having flown 4000 miles in 48 hours, Mr. Dix will fly another 1000 miles' lap to Washington.
