Wor»" match between SVhiteombe and Cotton is doseribed as one of the greatost matches in the history of British golf. All the first nine holes were halved. Then Whitcombe came home with the amazing total of- 31—nine under bogey —and led four up on the round with 68 to .72. / Cotton began the second round superably, doing the first nine holes in 82, which squared the match.
