NOMINATION RECEIVED TOO LATE.
MR GROUNDS’ OPPONENT ON DAIRY BOARD.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day.
The fact that a nomination addressed incorrectly was received late ha-s produced an interesting position in regard to the Dairy Board election. In the case of Mr B. T. Booker, of Whitfield, the candidate against, Mr Grounds, there was apparently a lastminute rush in forwarding .the official nomination paper, for it had not boon received by noon yesterday, when nominations closed. A registered letter containing the paper was received by the returning officer at 3 p.m., but it was found to be .addressed to “Dairy Control Board Election, Wellington,’' The postal officials had placed a notification in the letter-box at the, post office that a registered letter had arrived. It was not until later that it was discovered that the letter should have been addressed to the Returning Officer, Department of Agriculture. The letter was re-directed, but was received too late, and it is understood that the nomination is not being accepted, the effect being thait Mr Grounds is elected unopposed for Ward No. 1.
