FLOODS IN POVERTY BAY.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, This Day.

Cyclonic conditions have prevailed during the last 24 hours. Heavy rain fell overnight, the gauge at Te Karaka showing 4.45 inches. The rivers are in high flood. The water is four feet deep at the Puha railway tunnel, a position that has not occurred for eleven years. The flats about Puha are submerged, but so far the extensive Poverty Bay flat has not been affected, though the river is reported to be rising gradually further back.

WAIROA SUPPERS. TOWN PLATS INUNDATED. (By Telegraph —Fi’css Association.) WAIROA, This Day. One of the biggest floods for many years occurred early, this morning, owing to an unprecedented deluge during the last 24 hours, resulting in the river being bank-high. The water is almost up to the decking of the town bridge, and both wharves are covered. All the town flats are a sea of water. Launches and boats were washed out to sea, also timber and goods stored on the wharves. There is no sign of the heavy rain abating, and more damage is feared, with loss of stock.
