The derailment of a goods waggon of a slow mixed train, about six o’clock last evening, two miles north of Marton, resulted in half a mile of track being damaged and the Main Trunk service badly disorgainised. Breakdown gangs appeared early, and by 9.30, p.m. the line was sufficiently cleared to enable the train to proceed to Marton, whither the; passengers were taken by motor bus in order to connect with Wanganui and Palmerston trains. The north-bound Main Trunk express, also, the night north-bouudj Limited, wore held up till two o’clock this morning, being coupled. The, southbound expresses were only slightly delayed, and the other services are normal. 1 .

The'cause of the derailment is unknown. A similar mishap occurred in that vicinity some months ago. The ■waggon that was derailed left Taihape in good order, and the line at the scene of the accident was tested only yesterday. No injury was caused to the track, which is now in good order.
