Strained relations between' Japanese residents in the International Settlement and the municipal authorities have resulted in the arrest of two Japanese marines, members of a landingparty, by Chinese policemen. During a street disturbance it is believed that the marines had assaulted a Chinese youth. The police locked them up, and Japanese stormed the police station, demanding their release. Later a representative Japanese met. the Commissioner of Police and matters were righted officially, but the tension remains.
