'VARSITY DEBATERS.
WELLINGTON, Last Night. A largo crowd at the. Town Hah assembled for the second debate “That religious exercises are desirable in State schools,” in which',a British team of’’Varsity debaters took part. For the affirmative, Air. T. P. -McDonald i Edinburgh), Miss Alary Cooley (Victoria College), Air. Paul Reid (London), and Air. Steele (Victoria College), and for the negative .Messrs. W. P Rollings (Victoria College), R. N. May (Birmingham), R. AL Campbell (Victoria College), and A. H. H. Alolson (Oxford). The debaters from England provided much entertainment with their polished manner of debate and spontaneous wit, while the representatives of Victoria College acquitted themselves to a highly creditable manner. A merry band made their presence known with songs. By vote of the audience, the negative was carried.
