THE DRIVER DAZED.
NO EXPLANATION OF DISASTER. (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) PARIS, August'ls. The death roll in the Amiens railway disaster is now eleven. The condition of five qf the injured is very serious. Others are considered to be out of danger. Scenes at the wreck were most distressing. The mutilated bodies are at present lying in the hospital mortuary. Gangs of men are busily engaged clearing the track. It is hoped normal traffic will he restored it noon to-day. M. Laval, Minister of Public Works, declares it is impossible at present to make a precise statement regarding the responsibility for the accident. He says he has ordered the release of the engine driver after an examination by a doctor who made a reservation regarding the mental condition of the driver. He is a man with a good record and was found after the smash wandering along the track in a stupefied condition. Apparently he had lost his reason.
