CHARGES FOR POWER.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln the Board’s accounts up to March the charge for ironing and heating current has always been shown as lid per unit, but since then I sec it has been altered to 4d petunit. 1 am not aware of any notice to the public that this largo increased charge would be made. Have I overlooked it? Surely the Board has not increased the clnyge by over 150 .per cent, without any notice being given to their customers! When the Board’s officers were canvassing for consumers one of the !n----ducements to instal electric irons and heaters was the cheapness of current for same—lJd per milt—but at Id per unit the low beating value of electricity makes if .prohibitive. The public will he very chary about taking on electricity if they are liable to have the charges jumped up at any time without warning.—l am, etc. “1 WONDER WHY.” The Power Board states that if a consumer is prepared to guarantee a minimum consumption of current foxheating and cooking to the extent of 10s per month, the rate is IJd per unit. Without such guarantee the charge is 4d per unit. The Board could not afford to sell current for heating at such a low rate as ltd without a minimum consumption.
