SOUTH AFRICA’S RECIPROCAL TARIFF.
* UNSATISFACTORY TO NEW ZEALAND. WELLINGTON, Last Night. In replying to a question, Mr Coates said In the House to-day. “There has been a reciprocal tariff treaty between South Africa and New Zealand since 1907. In April last the Prime Minister of the South African Union advised the New Zealand Government that it was proposed to review the concessions hitherto granted on certain New Zealand products. These proposals were not considered satisfactory from the Dominion’s point of view, and negotiations respecting the matter are now taking place between the two Governments. If an agreement Is reached before the close of the present session. It will be brought before Parliament for ratification, in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Amendment Act, 1921.”
