COMMONWEALTH REVENUE.
POSTAL RECEIPTS INCREASE. (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) Melbourne, January 4. The Commonwealth revenue for the half-year was £13,084,000 compared with £18,718,000 for the previous corresponding half-year. The postal receipts increased by £579,000, but the Customs were responsible for a decrease. Although the Federal Government took power to issue a, new loan, it is now believed there will be ’no need lor more loan money during the current financial year.
In view of the reductions made in tlie Defence estimates,- the Federal Government is compelled fo indefinitely postpone the establishment of (lie two proposed squadrons of seaplanes and the active aeroplane squadtons will he reduced front twelve to lour machines per squadron.
