ftSydney, January 4. Shareholders of the Finance Association refused to ratify the amalgamation scheme, and instead decided to invite tenders for the purchase of the business, whereupon the Co-opera-fivo Wool Co. withdrew from all negotiations. It is understood that the business lias been secured by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. Most of the engineering establishments have resumed, the Clyde being the exception. Work was resumed yesterday on all the coalfields. Voting on the nineday fortnight commences next week. The defeat of the proposal is anticipated. The storm lias considerably abated, (hough more heavy rain and rough seas are anticipated. (Received This Day, 13.35 p.m.) Sydney, January 4,
