IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Wellington, Last Night. An important announcement of a renewhat drastic cut, especially in ike branch line and suburban railway sendees of both Islands, has been m>ule, says the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Acting-Minister of Railways. The cut will commence on August 14, and will k: it till the end of November, unless in the meanwhile the traffic greatly ii .proves. The high rale of expenditure and the decline in railway traffic since April has made the curtailment of the train service a matter of necessity. The midday trains between Palmerston North and Foxton will he reduced to two days a week. The mixed trains between Woodville and Masterton will be reduced to three days a week. The two motor trains between the Lower and Upper Hutt, the 4.45 a.m. Palmerston North to WaipukuriTi, and 11.25 p.m. Wellington to Johnsonville trains have been cancelled.
