The Milton Borough Council fonvardod a motion to the Lev ill Borough Council at its last meeting urging upon the Government the desirability of securing a State-owned mercantile fleet. Cr Lancaster said he was of opinion that the shipping question was or vital interest to tho 'Dominion. Moreover he thought the Council should deal with it. Cr Mackenzie moved as an amendment that the motion was one that sho•itld l>e dealt with by Parliament. This was seconded by the Mayor. Cr Ryder said there could he .110 harm in supporting the Milton resolution. He favoured the Council supporting it. On being put, Cr Matheson's motion supporting the resolution was carried.
