A RETURNED SOLDIER'S CASE.

(To the Editor) Sir,—With apologies for again finding it necessary to refer to a" letter ;>laced by me in Thursday night's paper and in answer to Mr Keedwell's remarks thereon, I am rather surprised that the Secretary of 'the Patriotic Society should try to side-step or hedge around such statements. H : s remarks would jead one to believe that this case is foreign to him, but I am convinced that this is not a fact. 1 have made my statements with: the lad's parents' consent and happen to know what I am talking about; also Mr Keedwell did not mention that the amount of money "held by 'the Public Trustee is the soldier's own money, otherwise Army batik pay, not any amount placed there bv a fairy godmother or even a patriotic society. My reason for stirring up this matter is, sir, simply because it if- a public matter and I feel convinced one that the public will not tolerate from any Government. Yours etc. RETURNED SOLDIER, (C. B. Wales.) HOROWHENUA RACING CLUB. (To tli o Editor). Sir.—As President of the above Club, I cannot let the remarks of "Bluejown" go unchallenged. T am sure if "Bluegown" had taken the trouble to have had an interview witli any of the Stewards 'or Mr Wallace. I don't think ho would have rushed 'into, print and =*> try to cause illfeeling. The facts of the case are as flnllow: Accord ill": to the rules of the Club all officers have to be elected ait the annual meeting. This meeting took place and many of the old Stewards lost their seats and new ones were elected in their steiad; this also happened to our Secretary by a very narrow margin. In a day or so the new Secretary resigned, andi the Stewards held a meeting at once and appointed a deputation of three to wait 011 Mr Wallace and ask him to accept the position. Mr Wallace. in replv to the deputation, said he would consider the matter and put his reply in writing, which he did, and the Stewards met to consider it. Mr "Wallace said he would accept the position if four Stewards, whom lie named, resigned. This, of cirmrse. they could not be expected .to do, and Mr Bull then kindly offered to act as secretary pro tem. ,T might say in conclusion that I don't thinllc any Steward of the Oub ever quost'oned Mr Wallace's faithfulness to his duties and T can say personally that I have known him for many years and have always found him a most capable and obliging gentleman. Tours etc.
