Dr Thomas, at the South Wales Conciliation Board, suggested that in future agreements each party be pledged to pay £100,000 in the event uf an agreement being broken. Horton, formerly chairman of the Congregational Union of England and Wales, writing to The Times, says that Nonconformists in England and Wales understand Ulster's dread of Rome. He adds that Nonconformists feel compelled by political principles to support Home Rule. PAUPERS' COMPLAINT. An agitation has been caused in Liverpool workhouse owing to the committee refusing to substitute foreign for home-killed meat, and thus saving four thousand pounds annually. The committee alleged that the shrinkage of imported meat in cooking made home-killed moat cheaper. Tests, however, have shown home-killed lost 193 ounces per ten pounds, chilled 17J ounces, and foreign meat 19£ ounces. The agitation continues.

BRUSSELS, February 11. A mob of coal miners at Mons attempted to liberate two strikers, who had been arrested for looting. Some gendarmos fired rifles in the air and the mob dispersed after several soldiers had been injured by stones. In another part of the town five hundred men pillaged a cart. A detachment of chasseurs charged the mob with bayonets. The enraged crowd attacked them, forcing the soldiers to fly. Tho troops subsequently rallied, and several rioters were wounded.

AT LIBERTY. LONDON, February 11. Violet Oharlesworth, who was sentenced on the 21st of February. 1910, to three years' imprisonment for obtaining money by false pretences, has been liberated.
