Signor Mussolini Desires An Understanding MEDITERRANEAN NAVIES (By Telegraph—Frees Assn.-Copyright.) LONDON, Nov. 11. The “Daily Mail’s” diplomatic correspondent says: “It is understood that the British Government, through its Ambassador, Sir Eric Drummond, has submitted to Signor Mussolini definite proposals for an Anglo-Italian Mediterranean understanding on the basis of maintenance of the present relative strengths of the two navies in the Mediterranean, and written guarantees regarding their respective spheres of interest in the Mediterranean.
“The negotiations are expected to be protracted, as, it is stated, the problem of Britain’s recognition of Italy’s Abyssinian empire must be settled before there can be co-operation on the wider questions. “Signor Mussolini is understood to have privately assured the British Government of his intense desire for understanding with Britain, and it is said that he has received reciprocal assurances.”
