ONGAONGA MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Ongaonga Women’s Institute was held in the Ongaonga Hall. There was a fairly good attendance, and Mrs Haldane presided. After the singing of the Institute song, business was proceeded with and arrangements were finalised for the tenth birthday party to be held next Thursday. Two members of the committee or the Ongaonga Horticultural Society were present and asked if the institute members rrould be agreeable to assist

their committee in the event of their deciding to hold an autumn show. Almost unanimous support was promised. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames E. and H. Worsnop, after which a very interesting demonstration on cellophane work was given by Miss Betty Freemantle, who received a very hearty vote of thanks. A comprehensive report of the proceedings of the annual general conference held recently in Dunedin, was given by the delegate, Mrs J. F. Bell, who was thanked for her talk The competition, best bowl of bulbs, judged by Mr E. 8. Bibby, resulted: Mrs R. J. Tierney 1, Mrs E. C. Bradley 2, Miss P. Bradley 3; while the winning entries in tho best blow-away sponge were, Mrs E. Worsnop I, Mrs Sparkman and Miss P. Bradley 2, Mrs Bradley -I. 'The cookery section was kindly judged by Mr Corrigan. An enjoyable afternoon concluded with tho singing of the National Anthem.
