ORPHANS’ CLUB
Second Korero of Season Though the weather could hardly lave been more disagreeable, there was an excellent attendance at the Hastings Orphans’ Club’s second korero last evening. It was one of the most enjoyable that the club has had for a very long time. Unfortunately several members of the orchestra were unable to get out of their homes, and for the first time the orchestra had a night of sitting-back and watching others perform. The korero was presided over by Mr P. J. Priest, deputy chief, who welcomed several visitors and admitted a number of new members. He extended the club's congratulations to Mr A. Fellow on his appointment as Chief Postmaster at Napier, and to Mr C. Lassen on liis election to the chairmanship of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board. The programriie was received with much enthusiasm, and included a very instructive and enjoyable talk on graphology by ’M. Alexandre. Songs were song by Messrs W. Harvey and W Brough, a novelty item by Mr E. H Culver, and piano solos by Mr A. T. Sinclair, of Te Awamutu. Mr J. Le Comte gave a number of humorous items, and Mr Chas. Bryant led a community sir.g. in which the gathering joined with great heartiness.
