WATERSIDER’S DECEIT
Unemployment Benefits and Compensation (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, J une 9. William John Knowles, aged 36, watersider, pleaded guilty to-day to four charges of obtaining money from three stupp ng companies and the Harbour Board and eight charges of making false statements for the purpose of obtaining benefit under tho Unemployment Act. The first four charges related to compensation for injuries received from the companies and the board at times which were shown To interlap, in addition to which a false name was used, as he could not use h s own. He also received sustenance from the unemployment authorities. He was sentenced to three months’ hard labour on each of the four false pretences charges, the first two to be cumulative, and was fined £lO and costs on the first of the false statement charges. !
