HOCKEY IN NAPIER

More Fine Displays on Saturday COMPETITION GAMES There were some fine displays of Hockey in Napier on Saturday. The weather was fine, and there was a good attendance of spectators. Following are the results;— SENIOR MEN Taradale (4) ▼. Seinde (2). —This was an exceptionally fast game, the pace being on all the way. The Taradale forwards played with a lot of dash, and they were a fine combination, dribbling weli and passing with judgment, while their following up was a feature of their play. They were ably supported by a fine lot of backs. Seinde play* ed a good game, and their defence was sound, but their forwards were unable to maintain the pace set by the more youthful Taradale line. Don Hill, Coltinge, Cross and Williams scored for Taradale, and Burns shot both goals for Seinde. Messrs T. 8. Atkinson and Craven refereed. Old Boys (6) v. Kiwi (2).—This game was played at Hastings and was one of the fastest and most thrilling games of hockey seen this season. There was not a moment of play that was not full of interest to the spectators. Players on both sides gave fine exhibitions of combined play. Old Boys were rather stronger on attack, their elever passing bouts repeatedly putting Kiwi on the defensive, but the Kiwi goalkeeper was equal to most emergencies and kept the score down. The stick work of the Kiwi forwards was not quite equal to that of Old Boys, and they lost several chances. Cameron, Old Boys’ brilliant forward, scored three of his sides goals, while Fulton sent in two and Bee one. The goals for Kiwi were hit by Best and Tucker.—Messrs Surgenor and Mardon acted as referees. JUNIOR MEN Taradale beat Kiwi B at Taradale after a game in which the losers put up a good defence but were no match for Taradale. SENIOR WOMEN Napier (4) v. Te Awa (1). —This was a good game though Napier played with batter combination than To Awa and their work near the circle was much better. The Napier forward line is a very strong one, and missed tew opportunities of scoring. The backs also played a fine, heady game, and their positional play is much superior. Te Awa, as they usually do, woke up and played a much better game when the scores were going against them than they had done at the beginning. Miss Mortensen (3) and Miss K. Clark were the scorers for Napier, and Miss Alderson hit Te Awa’s only goal.—Miss Clark and Mr Crook were the referees. Technical O.G. (2) v. Clive (1). — This was not nearly so interesting a game as the other senior games for Technical were manifestly the better team all through and kept Clive busy defending most of the time. Only stubborn defence, particularly by the goalkeeper, prevented the score against Clive from being much larger. For the uinners Miss May Huxtable notched goals, and for Clive Miss Simonsen scored from a penalty bully.—Messrs Atkinson and Cross controlled the game. Huia (2) v. Marama (nil). —This was a fairly good gan.e, but Marama 's lack of combination again spoilt several good efforts, good solo play on the part of the left wing taking the ball up to Huia’a twenty live on several occasions, but there was Tittle or no support forthcoming. Huia’s play was better all sound, and they managed to get the

ball into the net twice. —Mrs Chadwick and Miss Nepe being scorers.—Miss Clark and Mr Crook refereed.

JUNIOR WOMEN

Westshore (I) v. Taradale (1). —This match was a draw, and the score was a fair indication of the game. Both teams showed improvement on their earlier games, but the Taradale girls displayed greater improvement than Westshore ,and are likely to do better later on. Miss A. Aplin scored for Westshore and Miss N. Olliver for Taradale. —Messrs Atkinson and Vercoe were the referees.

Te Awa (1) v. Tui (nil). —This was a very even match and Te Awa played their best game so far this season. There was very little difference between the two teams, and play veered up and down the field from start to nuish. Miss G. Mclntyre was the accrer for To Awa.
