The Hopetoun Steeplechase was notable for the fart that only five of 13 runners finished. W. Howson, rider of Dilpurra, fractured his left upper arm, S. Warner, rider of Baanya, fractured his left collarbone, and W. Sandiford, rider oi Gallant Airman, suffered concussion and shock. Ras Kassa refused to leave the barrier. Wukcrifo dislodged his rider, as did Rauklea, while Black Beau war pulled up. The principal results were.— YORK HURDLES. Of £590; 2 miles. FULL CHARGE, Mr A. T. HURDLER DESTROYED MELBOURNE, June 6. The promising hurdler Wurlitzer, owned by Mr W. R. Kemball broke a shoulder during a trial gallop at Caulfield yesterday and was destroyed. N.Z. HORSES "FAIL AT ASCOT SYDNEY, June «. At the Ascot races Golden Wings, among others, gave considerable trouble at the barrier. The New Zealander was greatly fancied but could do no better than seventh in the first division of the Flying Handicap, in which Headmaster was left at the post. Golden Treasure finished unplaced in the first division of the Three and Four-Year-Old Handicap and King of Diamonds third in-the second division Golden Gate was unplaced in the Mascot Welter Mile, and Prince Ponibai and Miramond were unplneed in the first division of the Ascot Handicap.
