ELSTHORPE NOTES
Bachelors’ and Spinsters’ Ball From Our Own Correspondent ELSTHORPE, June 5. The annual ball of the bachelors and -•pinsters was held recently, there being a large crowd present. The hall had been tastefully decorated with green and pink streamers and coloured balloons. Delightful music was dispensed by Mr Les Henry’s orchestra of four instrumeuts. During the evening a Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Joyce Knight and partner. A savoury supper and claret cup added to the night’s enjoyment, and the secretaries, Mr N. MeGaffin and Miss N. Sutherland, together with their helpers, are to be congratulated on the success of the ball. The duties of M.C. were carried uul by Mr P. Hayden. The chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, Mr G. A. Maddison, together with the architect, Mr Fleming, and the secretary, Mr W. L. Dunn, paid a visit of inspection to the Elsthorpe school. They were met by the members of the school committee and several matters pertaining to the building were discussed Mr Maddison gave a short address to the pupils and granted them a half holiday, for which they responded with three hearty cheeis,
