She spoke at some length on the work done by the late Mrs. Kate Sheppard in conjunction with others in the campaign conducted by the W.C.T.U. in the effort to gain the suffrage for New Zealand women. She paid a great tribute to those woman who, on foot from door to door, secured 'signatures for the huge petitions which were presented time and again to Parliament. In tiinate and pleasing was the picture she portrayed ot the character and home lite of the late Mrs. E. R. McCombs, who had been a life-long friend of the speaker. In her role of homemaker she had had the larger vision of the civic and nation homemaker while serving as the first woman M.P. in New Zealand.
