OBITUARY
Mr. Francis Bethell The death occured recently at Auckland of Air. Francis (Frank) Betheli formerly of Havelock North and H»i? tings. Boni ill Wiltshire, England in 1818, the lute Mr. Bethcll arrived with Ins parents in Auckland iu 1861 and viis apprenticed to the saddlery trade. Aller serving his apprenticeship he came | to Hawke’s Bay and settled at Havelock North. Later he entered into business in Hastings as a saddler and harness-maker and occupied a shop opposite the then Railway Hotel, but what is now known as the Grand Hotel. He retired from business in 1914 ail< i settled ju Auckland where bo resided until his death. The late Mr. Bethell took a keen interest in most branches of sport especially horse-racing. He Was a foundation member ot the Forester’s Lodge at Havelock North and was well-known lor Ins generosity. He leaves a brother. Mr John Bethell. who resides at Avondalo.
