Opening of Club’s Season

KOREROS ON TUESDAYS Under the leadership of the Chief Orphan, Mr. Donald Campbell, the Hastings Orphans’ Club opened its 1936 season last evening with a highly successful and enjoyable korero into which several new features, which are to be adopted at future koreros, were introduced. Pleasing features of the gathering were that a number of visitors, including Mr. Renouf and Mr. Peake, of the Napier Savage Club, were present, and that ten new members were nominated and accepted. There was an. excellent attendance and the programme was of a quality quite in keeping with so important an occasion as the opening korero. The enthusiasm of the members gave promise ot one oi the most successiul seasons in the club’s history. Tho orchestra, under Mr. Chas. Bryant, took its usual large share in tho entertainment of the members, and is in fine form, ft has increased in membership, and has been considerably strengthened by the enlistment of several very talented players. Those who contributed to tho programme, in addition to tho orchestral items, were Messrs. F. O. Wilkinson, A. Rollout, A. Robertson, and Messrs. Primo and White, of the Napier Savage Club Messrs. Shaw, Priest, Baird, and Johnson took part iu uu entertaining play-reading.

During the evening Mr. Campbell expressed the club's good wishes to Mr. Baird, who is leaving shortly on a holiday trip to China. Also he re--1 erred to the services rendered to the club by Mr. John Holt in connection with the new platform for the stage, and to tho writing of cards by Air’ -Maurice Boshier.

In future the club’s koreros are to lie held on Tuesdays. The next will be held ou Tuesday week.
