WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Fernhill Meeting A' most enjoyable time was spent by. members of Fernhill Women’s Institute at the monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Craven presided over a good attendance of members, and extended a welcome to Mrs. Davies and a number of members from Fukehamoatnoa Institute. One new member was enrolled. Several business items were discussed. Aliss Richards, convenor of the recent dance committee, gave her report of the function held for institute funds. Mrs. Griffiths was chosen as delegate to attend the annual general meeting to be held in Dunedin in July. Airs. Karena, senr., and Mrs. Shrimpton gave a most interesting demonstration on the weaving of flax kits and small baskets. These were really a work of art and members marvelled at the efficient manner in which Airs. Karena handled her work. Airs. Shrimpton kindldy acted as interpreter. Quite a good collection of gifts was handed in by members. These are to be forwarded to the Hawke’s Bay Children’s Home. In the knitted singlet competition Airs. Campbell gained first place, Mrs. F. Ramsay second, and Airs. W. AlcCutcheon third. These are to be donated to the Plunket Society. Several items were given by the Maori members and were much appreciated by all present. During the afternoon a game of “Laughter” caused much merriment. Airs. Osborne proved to be the winner and was later presented with a small prize. The hostesses, who served an enjoyable afternoon tea. were Mrs. Isher. wood and Aliss Richards. The meeting terminated with the singihg of the National Anthem.
