“A MEAN REPLY”

Port Ahuriri Complaint

“A moan reply, considering that a profit of £11,563 was made in the electricity account,” was how the secretary of the Port Ahuriri Progressive Association, Mr T. McCarthy, referred last evening to the Napier Borough Council’s advice that it did not conjider it necessary to provide street lights in Battery road south at Port Ahuri ri.

In reply to an application by the association, the council stated that as Battery road south bounded the proposed recreation ground area, on which work would be progressing, it would not be necessary to provide lights in the meantime, particularly as the road might be closed to traffic for some time.

“The Borough Council’s excuse is s very poor one,” commented a member of the association.

On the motion of Mr J. Tait, it was decided to write again to the council, asking for lights in Battery road extension and in Lever street, near the school entrance.
