Many Aged Sorts Offered

£5O THE TOP PRICE

A mixed entry of about 100 horses which consisted chiefly of aged sorts was offered at Stortford Lodge to-day. Good staunch younger entries made good sales which were fully up to market values but for other types there was a quiet enquiry. The top price received was £6O for a fine type of draught gelding offered on account of Taheka Station. Useful spring-cart sorts broken to all work, including shafts, were in demand and for a late season- offering made very satisfactory prices. A thoroughbred hack met with an eager sale to realise £l6 10/-. A moderate clearance was made with passings being frequent among the aged entries.

The market can be guaged from the following prices for selected entries: —

One eight-year-old gelding, broken to the saddle and pack, made £4 10/-. A sound-mouthed, aged mare, broken to saddle and harness, realised £5 5/-. One five-year-old spring cart gelding, broken to all places, being staunch and sound, making a suitable farmer’s horse, was passed at £l5. One nine-year-old gelding, broken to all chain work, having all been in the shafts, was passed at £l4. One large-framed light draught geldijiig, broken to all chain work, was passed at £24, £5 bought a six-year-old gelding pony, broken to the saddle and thoroughly quiet. One eight-year-old, medium draught mare, broken to all chain work, being a good plough leader, was passed at £22.

An aged staunch gelding, used to saddle and pack in the Mohaka district, being useful in all chain work and thoroughly quiet, was sold at £l3 10/-.

£22 10/- bought a seven-year-old light draught staunch mare, broken* to all chains, being in foal to a draught colt.

A sound-mouth, aged, medium draught gelding, quiet in "the shafts and broken to all chains, being useful for all classes of hard work, realised £26.

Down from Nuhaka, an aged spring cart gelding, broken to all chain work, being a useful orchard horse, was passed at £l5.

On account of Mr. J. Le Quesne, an aged, light draught mare, guaranteed sound and to all places, being a good farm horse, was passed at £ll. On account of the same vender, an aged gelding, broken to chains and a mower, was passed at £5 10/-.

An eight-year-old draught gelding, staunch and broken to all chain work, being a good shatter, was passed at £3O 10/-. Down from Kaiwaka, a sound-mouth rising seven-year-old gelding, useful for all chain work and good in the saddle and pack, made £l7. A sound-mouth,, aged hack gelding, being a good stock mount and useful for heavy hill work, realised £9.

On behalf of Olrig Station, an aged draught gelding, broken to all implements and shafts, being just out of work and in splendid order, brought £46 10/-.
