SUNDAY SCHOOLS
Interdenominational Conference Prior to tbe 1931 earthquakes, a conference on Sunday school work was held •in Northern Hawke's Bay each King’s Birthday. Arrangements are now finalised to hold a rstoratlon conference on the 23rd inst. in St. Andrew’s Hall, Hastings, for all interested in the training of the young m sacred lore. Suggestions and help have been received from tlie youth departments of various churches. Tho result is the compilation of a programme for the morning and afternoon sessions, which a prominent educationist in another district describes as most comprehensive. The theme for the morning will be “thir Teachers.” Mr W. A. G. Penlington, M.A., is to deal with “Helps to Eflicieiley in Teaching.” The Rev. D. J. A. Shaw takes as his subject “The Land and the Book.” Miss Lorna Hodder, secretary of the Methodist Youth Department, i s to deal viu. “Worship in the School.” Mr A. B. Harper will be the dinner speaker. He will tell of his work in connection with the Church of England correspondence Sunday school. At the afternoon session the theme will b e “Our Scholars.” Mr 11. A. H. Insull, M.A., Dip. Social Science, takes as his topic “The differences between the Child and the Adult, and the significance of these differences to the Sunday-school Teacher.” Miss K. N’icoll, art mistress at tho Hastings High School, will speak on “Winning tbe Child’s Interest Through the Eye Gate.” Sister Gladys is to deal with ‘The Primary Department and tho Home.” Mr J. Thorpe will introduce the subject “How to Improve the Regularity cf Attendance.” Discussion will follow after the introduction of each theme. Mr Chas. Griffiths is chairman of the executive committee, and Mr H. R. French honorary secretary.
