ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING Mr. C. D. Panckhurst presided over a most enthusiastic public meeting held at the Havelock North Town Board Hall last night The convenors of tho meeting that a bazaar be held in September, but such was the enthusiasm of the ladies present that it was finally decided unanimously to hold the bazaar on Wednesday, Jul}’ 22.
The executive committee consists of Mesdames H. Hay and W. A. Meads, with Mr. C. D. Panckhurst (chairman). Messrs. H. A. Bennett, G. Hook, W.' A. Nimon J. J. Nimon, J. M. de Mon. talk and A. Toop, with Messrs. E. F. Leicester and W. H. Anderson as organisers.
It was decided to aim at the erection of a pavilion measuring 30it. x 20ft. with a kitchen attached together with two dressing-rooms with showers and conveniences for the use of sports bodies, at a cost of approximately
Mr. H. Eric Phillips advised that the plan of the proposed building would be ready in the course of a few days and it was decided to exhibit it in the village. The following organisations were represented:—The Women’s Institute, the Mothers’ Union, the Girl Guides, the Boy Scouts Fire Brigade, Swimming Club. Sports Club, Bowling and Croquet Club, Tennis Club. Buffalo Lodge Foresters’ Lodge, Baths Committee, Public School Committee, Football Club. Town Boar 3. Te Mata Masonic Lodge, Basketball Club, Carpet Bowling Club, Masqueraders Chib’ Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, and the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union.
It was announced that various donations of fruit and other goods had already been received. The Masqueraders’ Club agreed to donate half the proceed# of its fancy dress dance to the fund.
It was decided to ask Mr. M. Christie. M.P. to open the bazaar at 2 p.m. Stalls were allotted as follows:— Sweets and cakes. Basketball Club and Girl Guides; poultry and meat, Sports Club and Friendly Societies, Messrs. L. Drummond and' T. Hoy; vegetables and fruit, Buffaloes Lodge; produce ( e .ggs, butter, jams, and preserves), nomen’s Division of the Farmers’ Union; jumble Women’s Institute and Mrs. Heenan; plain and fancy, Croquet Club; books. Messrs. A. R. Greenwood E. F. Leicester, Toe H member; art,’ Mothers’ Union, Mesdames r. W. Fergusson and L. Hill; afternoon tea, Mrs. Greenwood: Howers and plants, ■ i.' a . n d.Mrs- E. R. Sanson and High School girls; novelty and competitions. Mr. W. A. Nimon, convenor.
Mr. Toop and the Fire Brigade members agreed to build the stalls and the executive elected to arrange the decorations.
The most enthusiastic meeting of recent years concluded with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
