CONTROL OF RIVERS
Government Should Take Over
TARADALE OPINION:
That the Government should take over the control and maintenance of the rivers in the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board’s district as a national undertaking was a suggestion efiade yesterday to the Government Committe'e of Inquiry in Napier by the chairman of the Taradale Town Board, Mr J. Williamson. The chairman of the committee, Mr A. J. Baker, intimated that such a question was beyond the scope of the committee’s business.
As a reason foi his suggestion Mr Williamson said that Government money was involved in the river works of the district, and the tax-payers of New Zealand had contributed towards that money. That being so, the Government might as well take over the whole responsibility.
