DAIRY INDUSTRY
Present-Day Uncertainty The uncertainty of the dairying industry at the present time, especially in view of the Government’s declared policy of guaranteed prices, was commented upon by Mr. G. H. Bell, president of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, at the annual meeting, held at Hastings to-day. “To-day the majority of ui uro a little nervous,” he su*d, adding that at the time of the general elections last year the dectionecring speeches of candidates seemed attractive in their references to guaranteed prices. Now a great many dairy farmers were anxious as to what their position might be in the future. “We can only hope that the step the Govern-nent is takiiq, will not b# a retrograde one,” he continued. “Undoubtedly the dairying industry is the backbone of this <ountry, and we are vitally Affected with the progress of the industry.”
