Greyhound Race Meeting Arranged CLUB OFFICERS From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, June 2. A meeting of the Central Hawke’s Bay Greyhound Club was held last night. Mi 11. W. Parsons presided over a large attendance. It was decided to hold the first greyhound race meeting on Mr A. Svensou’s paddock in Farm road on the King’s birthday, June 23. A new U shaped track, 500 yards in length, has been prepared. This is reported to be very satisfactory.

Visiting dogs are expected to come from as far afield as Wanganui, Mas tertcu, Dannevirke, Hastings and Napier.

Trophies and prize money have been donated for all events. The following officers were elected last uight:— Patron, Dr., C. Raymond; chairman, Mr H- W. Parsons; timekeeper, Mr J McLean; starter, Mr W. Adams; judge, Mr B. L. Wallis; field mechanic, Mr P Blair; clerk of course. Master B. Bousefield; field stewards, Messrs E. G. Dowric.k, G. Brommell and I. W. N. Mackie; protest committee, Messrs 8. Southerwood, A. W. Parsons, A. Annand and C. R. Watson; announcer, Mr W. Russell; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Hindman.

There is every prospect that the meeting will be a success with good fields. A good afternoon’s entertainment aud a large attendance is expected. MAY RAINFALL. Considerably less rain fell in May this year than last year. The figures were 1.2 inches against three inches in May of last year. It has also been the driest month of the year. The average rainfall for the preceding months of this year is four inches.

During the month seven frosts were experienced, six of them occurring on successive days, May 16 to 21. The total rainfall for the five months of 1936 is 18.33 inches. Home and School League. The monthly meeting of the Waipukurau Home and School League was held last evening at the primary school. Mr H. A. Martin presided. After a discussion it was finally agreed that the aggregate prizes for the fortnightly card parties be awarded for the best Jo scores out of 12, in stead of 12 out ot 12, as previously announced. The next card party and dance is to be held on Friday next. It was decided that 12 new packs of cards be procured. SCHOOL MUSEUM. To-day the Waipukuran school received from Mrs A. Sandel, the daugh ter of the late Mrs Mary Gow, two very fine cases containing tropica] shells, coral, and other exhibits suitable for school use. The school museum has consisted hitherto of a shelf of curios housed in the library but now the school has the nucleus of what may grow to be a most useful adjunct to school work—a school museum. The thanks of the community must be accorded to Mrs Sandel for her generosity in sending such a handsome gift to the Waipukurau District High School. PERSONAL. Dr. Anderson and Nurse Cook, school medical officers, are at present visiting the Waipukurau District High School.
